Article1

Article 1. Purpose

The Greek Library publishes only the established text of ancient, Byzantine and medieval Greek works. No critical apparatus, introduction, note or translation by a modern editor is reproduced.

Article2

Article 2. The works

The works published are in the public domain (French Intellectual Property Code, art. L. 123‑1).

Article3

Article 3. The editions

A scholarly transcription of an ancient text is not an original work within the meaning of copyright. The editor’s choices belong to scientific method, not to personal expression. The established text, published without apparatus, is therefore not protected.

Case law

  1. TGI Paris, 3e ch., 4e sect., 27 mars 2014, RG n° 11/01444, Librairie Droz c. Classiques Garnier ;
  2. CA Paris, pôle 5, ch. 2, 9 juin 2017, n° 16/00005, confirmatif.

Only the critical apparatus, commentaries, introductions and translations may be protected. We do not publish them.
